I used to think being an executive would involve a lot of power dressing, high heels and blow-dries. More often it meant 14-hour+ working days, gruelling travel, and a schedule where a pee break counts as ‘me time’.
Talking to other women in similar level roles to me – partners in consultancies, executives of government agencies, and CEO’s of not-for-profits and startups – we all had common challenges:
How to look fresh and polished in important meetings when you’ve been up all night with a sick kid
Buying shoes that will survive the walk to the furthest departure gate in the airport at the end of a long day on your feet
Finding a top that works for a conference keynote and won’t show the sweat stains from your hot flushes
Travelling with only carry-on luggage when there’s a 7kg weight limit and you’re taking several reports for light reading on the plane.
…Yet, somehow, we always managed to look like we had our shit together (well, almost always). I’m going to tell you how - and have a little fun with it along the way...
This is not a fashion blog about award ceremony ballgowns or the latest street styles (as much as we love them), it’s about the kind of clothes, accessories, and beauty products that successful career women own and wear for most of their adult lives. And it’s about lifestyle tips from women who have made it to the top of their profession.
Fashion is great - but we need clothes that are stylish, practical, and let us do our jobs. And if we’re not in one of those jobs yet, we need to know how other women do it.
We need clothes with pockets.
